Market Spotlight – Microsoft Acquires AltspaceVR

On October 3, 2017, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQGS:MSFT) (“Microsoft”), one of the world’s largest technology companies, acquired AltspaceVR, Inc. (“AltspaceVR”), a software startup that operates a virtual reality social network, for an undisclosed sum. AltspaceVR previously announced that it was shutting down operations on July 28th, 2017 after its third round of fundraising fell through before announcing it would stay open on August 15th thanks to discussions with unidentified potential partners.
