Clearsight Hosts Big Data Executive Forum – Event Recap

Clearsight Advisors held our inaugural Big Data Executive Forum on October 18, 2012 for over 100 industry leaders who met to exchange ideas surrounding the future of Big Data investment and game-changing applications. An exceptional panel of thought leading industry veterans fielded questions from the audience made up of some of the most innovative and exciting companies in the Big Data universe.

Gareth Herschel, Senior Big Data Analyst at Gartner, moderated the panel that included Nick Cayou, Senior Director at EMC’s Greenplum, Gus Hunt, CTO of the Central Intelligence Agency, Arnab Gupta, Founder & CEO of Opera Solutions, and Harry Weller, General Partner of New Enterprise Associates.

The panelists launched right into a lively discussion focused on the actual application of Big Data and how companies are leveraging data to transform their businesses. Herschel kicked off the discussion by defining Big Data and queried the panelists on a range of topics from common misconceptions to the real focus in today’s market – the analytics of data. Several of the panelists framed Big Data in a unique way. For example, Weller called Big Data “a glimpse into human behavior” while Gupta called it an “audit of human experiences.” Participants in the forum enthusiastically peppered the panel with questions from the shortage of data scientists to security and privacy of Big Data. The panel concluded with final thoughts and predictions for Big Data; each panelist described their view of how Big Data will evolve over the next 10 years: in short, it will reshape the market.
